Located within the Tampa Heights neighborhood, this three-unit townhouse project continues OWA’s ongoing exploration of Florida vernacular architecture, thoughtfully adapted to a compact urban site. Each unit is designed to preserve privacy and foster a strong connection to its surroundings, while addressing the spatial limitations inherent in typical shotgun-style floor plans.

A defining feature of the project is the corner unit’s split-level layout, which incorporates an open-air courtyard that spans all three floors. This vertical void invites additional natural light into the home, disrupting the traditionally dark interiors of attached dwellings.

As with much of our work, the design aims to minimize the visual impact of front-loaded garages by using material articulation and massing strategies that enhance the pedestrian experience. Landscaped entry sequences and regionally sourced materials, such as coral stone, further root the building in its context, offering a site specific approach to urban infill living in the area.
